SESSION PREPARATION

Prepping drums for recording

I recommend changing both top and bottom heads on toms and snare a day or two before your session. For heavy music I really like coated Remo emperors and for more mid scooped sound I like the clear pinstripes, also the Evans UV2’s work great. Bottom heads clear ambassadors work great. For more open sounding drums coated ambassadors work great as do Evans UV1’s. For snare drums pretty much any coated double ply head works great and a Remo ambassador hazy with a thicker wire works great. On Kicks I really like Remo power strokes on both batter and resonate side, also I recommend cutting the port hole on the resonate side right in the middle of the kick.
